Growing the community from crop to cup
The state-of-the-art DMCC Coffee Centre, situated in the Jebel Al Free Zone, Dubai, is a world-class facility providing a wide range of services to support the entire coffee value chain, from crop to cup.
Some of these services include processing, roasting, creating tailor-made coffee solutions and the establishment of a fully dedicated temperature-controlled green coffee storage facility. This ensures that coffee remains humidity-free and therefore in the perfect condition – with this storage facility being a first for the Middle East.
In fact, the DMCC Coffee Centre has 15,000m2 of temperature-controlled warehousing space, enabling the community to store, clean, blend, roast, grind and package the beans to create the perfect cup for customers to enjoy.
But whilst such a state-of-the-art coffee facility is providing a world-class product, how can farmers, roasters and traders quickly take this to market and trade globally? How can the barriers to trading be removed to provide greater access to new markets to ultimately help businesses to grow? And how can the coffee community use the supply chain to their advantage to trade more easily?
Smoothing the flow of international trade
This is where the World Logistics Passport (WLP), the world’s first logistics loyalty programme has been able to help, providing seamless access to trade and creating economic efficiencies for its members. A first of its kind, the WLP is a global, public-private sector-led initiative, designed to smooth the flow of global trade and unlock market access through the creation of new trade routes, providing cost and time efficiencies to its members.
Joining the programme in 2020, DMCC Coffee Centre has now been able to provide a greater range of benefits to the community, so that they can enjoy greater market access and trade advantages. By being a member of the loyalty programme, the supply chain has been strengthened through the fast-tracking of cargo movement, reducing administrative costs, advancing cargo information, and facilitating trade across borders.
Benefits for frictionless trade
By working with its partners, which includes customs and port authorities, the WLP is able to provide the coffee community with benefits, such as fast-lanes at customs, making this process as frictionless as possible, and ultimately providing greater time savings in enabling coffee to be delivered faster from A to B.
Thanks to the WLP, the coffee community in Dubai has been able to accelerate its growth internationally. With the WLP having hubs in over 15 countries around the world, including Brazil, South Africa and Singapore, the coffee industry is now able reach new customers, smoothing the overall trade journey and reducing the cost of logistics in terms of money and time.
Commenting on the partnership with WLP, Saeed Al Suwaidi – Director of Agri Commodities, DMCC, said:
“DMCC is committed to advancing global trade through the infrastructure and ease of doing business we provide for member companies. We foster strategic international partnerships through our ecosystems, connecting global tea and coffee producers with consumers from Latin America, Africa and beyond. Our collaboration with World Logistics Passport exemplifies this commitment, successfully leveraging Dubai’s infrastructure and our extensive network to propel global trade, create new opportunities and strengthen connectivity for the global tea and coffee industries.”
Mahmood AlBastaki – General Manager, WLP, Comments:
