Cost-Effective Solutions in Food Manufacturing

By FPS Food Process Solutions

Food manufacturing is a dynamic industry that requires continuous improvements to maintain profitability and efficiency. Rising costs of raw materials, labor, and energy make cost-effectiveness a crucial goal for manufacturers. By optimizing equipment, managing raw materials effectively, and integrating smart technology, food manufacturers can significantly reduce costs while maintaining product quality. FPS Food Process Solutions explores how these three key strategies can enhance cost efficiency in food production.

Equipment Optimization

Optimizing equipment in food manufacturing is essential for reducing operational costs, increasing productivity, and minimizing downtime. From Day One, FPS looked at how equipment needed to be designed better – for smoother production, enhanced cleanliness, and for better efficiency.

  • Engineering Design: FPS freezers and chillers were designed to reduce redundant and even hygienically unsafe features that would compromise food quality. Optimized design meant removing unnecessary surfaces that act as bacteria capture points. Motors were also placed outside of the freezer, moving all internal components such as wires and non-food components such as lubricant away from food production.

  • Energy Efficiency: Energy-efficient machinery means better energy utilization. With our recirculating Clean-in-Place (CIP) system, this helps to extend processing times and meet production goals without shutting down equipment for extended periods of time for cleaning. With our synchronized defrost system, individual coil panels are shut down one at a time to defrost, while remaining coils are kept operational, thereby maintaining production levels.
  • Regular Maintenance: Ensure maintenance schedules are kept consistent. This means that preventive maintenance and regular service checks can help keep equipment running smoothly.

Raw Material Management

Efficient raw material management can significantly reduce waste, lower procurement costs, and improve profitability.

  • Bulk Purchasing: FPS purchases raw materials in bulk in order to negotiate better prices. This means that forecasting in advance offers customers better clarity on costs as well as a better view on equipment expectation.
  • Global Supply Chain: An extensive and connected global supply chain provides customers transparency on where parts are coming from as well as comfort in knowing when and where their equipment is being manufactured.

Smart Technology Integration

The use of smart technology in food manufacturing enhances efficiency, ensures quality, and reduces costs. FPS has been leading the way in providing the (RMS) Remote Monitoring System, overseen by the (RMCC) Remote Monitoring Control Centre, a centralized hub of technical specialists available 24/7.

  • Remote Monitoring Integration: Remote monitoring of equipment performance helps to detect, even prevent potential downtime and equipment inefficiencies. The RMS is a web-based, universal platform that helps track, analyze and report on their equipment’s performance. By having sensors monitor critical touch points such as infeed, belt tension, air flow, and more, the RMS can immediately alert personnel to troubleshoot the issue.
  • Reduce Labour: Physical service calls and maintenance checks can be more strategic, by moving to online remote servicing. By providing smart data, food manufacturers can make strategic decisions with the support of the RMCC, all at the tips of their fingertips.

Cost-effective food manufacturing relies on the strategic implementation of equipment optimization, raw material management, and smart technology. By maintaining well-functioning, energy-efficient equipment, manufacturers can reduce downtime and operational costs, leading to more efficient and cost-effective operations.

FPS Food Process Solutions will be exhibiting at Saudi Food Manufacturing from 13-15 April 2025 at the Riyadh Front Exhibition & Conference Centre in Hall 2, Booth F2-72.
