Marel and MMC First Process partnership delivers results

The recent partnership between Marel and MMC First Process, a specialist in fish handling and cooling solutions, is creating meaningful change in the seafood processing industry. Two global leaders are using their expertise to set new benchmarks in the industry by making it easier for processors to raise standards in efficiency, transparency, and sustainability.

The partnership provides a “one-stop-shop” for customers across the seafood value chain looking for integrated systems. By combining Marel’s advanced automation and data-driven software with MMC First Process’s expertise in fish handling, processing and cooling, customers have access to solutions which seamlessly integrate from farm to plate. Improving traceability, operational excellence and addressing industry challenges. This alliance is more than a strategic collaboration, it is a commitment to bringing responsible innovation to as many customers as possible.

Seamless sustainable solutions

Although a relatively new partnership, multiple customers have already experienced the benefits. From the start of the process, customers work closely with members of both Marel and MMC First teams, developing a combination of solutions that will directly meet the customer’s specific needs. Working together, Marel and MMC First Process can provide fully integrated systems for everything from initial fish handling to processing, packaging and tracking, creating a seamless chain that ensures the highest product quality and food safety.

The success of these systems has enabled customers to meet industry demands while satisfying consumer expectations for responsible, transparent sourcing.

Diego Lages, Sales and Marketing Director at Marel, says customer feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. “This partnership is something we’ve worked on for a long time. We are confident that our strategic alliance creates a synergy unmatched by other suppliers. Already, this collaboration has shown real benefits for our customers’, and we will continue working closely to advance the industry and secure our customers’ interests.”

State of the art practices

HIMA Seafood is driven to be a leader of sustainable seafood practices. They are constructing the world’s largest land-based trout farm using a Recycling Aquaculture System (RAS), in Rjukan, Norway. With an expected production of 150 tonnes of trout to be processed per week, they needed a state-of-the-art facility that optimized capacity and quality without sidelining the company’s value drivers of sustainability or animal welfare. Working with Marel and MMC First Process The new facility was designed using the latest hardware and software solutions, from handling to final packaging. “The design has been refined in close collaboration with the customer to optimize production capacity,” says Stig Morten Skaar, Sales Director of Processing at MMC First Process. “Marel’s expertise in packaging, labeling and traceability showcases our ability to deliver a complete value chain solution.”

Marel’s and MMS First Process’s alignment in sustainable practices benefits customers and the long-term sustainability of the industry. The partnership’s focus on reducing energy consumption, optimizing resource use and promoting traceability across all stages of production ensures that customers can achieve their environmental goals without compromising efficiency. “Our partnership with Marel enables us to deliver a comprehensive, cutting-edge solution that empowers customers to lead in the seafood industry with confidence and sustainability,” says Lars Erling Krogh, CEO of MMC First Process.

Transformational partnership

As Marel and MMC First Process continue to work together we aim to elevate industry standards and enhance the seafood experience for consumers, bringing quality, transparency and sustainability to every table. Together, we are transforming the future of seafood processing.
